Amex Business Platinum to Limit 35% Bonus to Selected Airline

American Express is devaluing one of the perks of the Business Platinum card. Here’s the new language that you can now find for the 35% Airline Bonus:

Effective September 18, 2025, Business Platinum Card Members will no longer receive points back through the 35% Airline Bonus for a First or Business class flight on any airline that is not their selected qualifying airline when using Membership Rewards Pay with Points through American Express Travel.

You can see more details and select you airline here.

This is a significant devaluation for the Amex Business Platinum card as a 35% points rebate makes it worth using Membership Rewards for some First and Business class fares. Limiting it to just the selected airline makes much less useful. You can change your airline once or twice during the year, but that makes it a more cumbersome process.

This announcement comes just two days after American Express revealed that major updates are coming to the consumer and business Platinum cards. Details of those updates have not been revealed but Amex said that we will see them this fall. Maybe on September 18th?
