Spending Requirement Increase for Amex Platinum Card Bonus

American Express has increased the spending requirement for the welcome bonus on the Amex Platinum Card. You now need to spend $12,000 instead of $8,000 in order to earn the bonus. The bonus itself has not changed and is still “as high as 175,000 points”. Check out the details below.

    • 5X MR points on airfare booked directly with airlines or through Amex Travel
    • 5X MR points on eligible hotels booked through Amex Travel
    • 1X MR points on all other purchases

  • $600 Hotel Credit ($300 semi-annually) for prepaid bookings at Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection ( two-night minimum) through American Express Travel.
  • $400 Resy Credit ($100 per quarter)
  • $300 Lululemon Credit ($75 per quarter)

  • $200 in statement credits per calendar year for airline incidental fees. Enrollment required.

This is a 50% increase for the spending requirement while the welcome bonus remains the same. It would still be a good offer if you were able to constantly get 175K points, but many people will see just 80K.
