They literally had tables with Credit Card vendors right after the check-out of the campus bookstore….pay for your books and you are directed through this labrynth. No credit history needed….just sign the form and you get the card in about 2 weeks. Freshman, Senior….did not matter….everyone was approved….and A LOT of people did this.
His advice is good but his presentation skills are poor. He comes across as a salesman and that’s why he’s successful. But his technical knowledge is sophomoric. Good luck to people who listen to him or Dave Ramsey.
Stop calling Gen X Boomers. SERIOUSLY. Boomers are the PARENTS of Gen Xers and had a TOTALLY COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LIFE EXPERIENCE…Night and Day!!! Do your research on Generation Culture before spreading misinformation about an entire generation of people.
$14 billion on 119 miles under construction? That sounds like a steal in the UK – HS2 (same distance) has cost £120 billion and it's projected to be finished around 2032 after the project started in around 2007
In South Africa the banks are so mean that they will not give a credit card to a kid. You have to have an actual job before the banks lend you any money. Shope have "lay-by". You want something? Pay and amount toward it every month and once you have paid it in full then it is your to take home.
A spoiled society we live in but they want to be communist use that 1800 dollar cellphone and look up North Korea they have 2 choices live in unbelievable poverty or take your own live
An estimated $17 trillion in household wealth was erased during the 2008 financial crisis. Many Gen Xers had to literally start over. People's lives aren't straight lines.
I wasnt taught financial responsibility from parents and i was undisciplined for a long time and some decisions i made i made because i thought i was doing my best in my position in my family my last kid graduates in 3yrs and im hooeful to be debt free by the time she graduates and i admit my financial shirt comings to my kids explain my thinking at the time and mistakes i made and tried to teach them what i learned and how to be better than i was and make better decisions

The ugly truth about financial education is that it doesn't matter. You are told to eat right and you know how to eat right, but you don't do it. The same goes for finance. These choices are not made logically and most people have the financial knowledge to know the right choice to make.. the problem is its emotions. Want to curb americas credit card debt? Severely restrict consumer marketing, restrict each person to 1 credit card, essentially keep putting hurdles up and turn purchasing from a dopamine hit to what it really is: a painful event. They won't do it because they need you to go into debt and ruin your life to keep our economy afloat.
America is NOT going to teach it's citizens how fucked they are. Every system we live our lives by are predatory, and that's never going to end without bloodshed.
Stay local for college. Live at home and commute. Go to a state school. My nephew got a bachelor's degree in 4 years for 30k. He saved 40k in room and board and meal plans. He's working at a company that has a program that will let him get a master's degree and the company pays for most of it.
Husband and I have no debts now. Had a very hard wake up call with being in debt up to our ears. We are 69 years old and been out of debt for 10 years. And live on our SS checks that is less then $18.000 a year and we own our house, and no car payment! We never in our life made $20.000 a year. Husband was a small dairy farmer for over 40 years ( milking 20 cows) and I work as a factory worker making no more then $13.00 a hour. So yes people can live on less if they would stop spending foolishly on things that is not needed. Again we Learned the hard way.
They not only do not teach basic finance skills in public schools, in California they are Highschool students planning to move on to college to sign up from student loans. It's a chore to opt out of the manditory student loan registration with every turn asking "How come you didn't apply to student loans yet?"
I remember 401k in the 90’s. They were very plain with just a few mutual funds to choose from. You didn’t have access to them to check how they were doing just got a letter once in a while. Today information is on your phone…
Retired Air Force at 21.5 years, retired teacher at 12.5 years, and Social Security. Still have a house mortgage for another 6 years, no credit card debt, no car payments,
We did it finally, but we're Gen x and our parents told us things like " you will always have a car payment" or "always have a credit card", even though my frugalness came from my parents. I know it sounds weird, but it's true. Our debt wasn't due to my parents, but Caleb's right about it was the attitude of the day. We encouraged our kids to go the trade school route and avoid student loans. 2 out of three heeded our advice.
Getting divorced is a huge setback in managing your finances. Also, a friend of mine has 3 kids buried with student debt. They are in their 40's and complain about it yet all manage to go on nice vacations every year. I asked her why they didn't spend the money towards their debt to get it out of the way. She said they want to enjoy their life while they are young. Then she told me I was unrealistic when my husband and I swore our son would not have student debt like that. He went to community college for 2 years and then finished his bachelors at a state college. Sure we helped him but he worked hard to get through it. He has a good job and a healthy respect for money.

1: Higher education is not EDUCATION ANYMORE! It’s a scam.
2: student loans are a government predatory scam!

As a teacher I'm telling you the kids don't listen. 1 in 10 probably do but only because they are teaching the kid about debt at home.
Don’t blame all boomers because of your parents stupid advice, bro
