“OpenAI is a good example of the AI bubble.”

Saying that AI is a bubble and that it can not scale and that will fail miserably is the new hype now. In history, computer technology, not even once had a scaling problem. My first PC had a 40 megabyte hard drive, which looked like a brick. Now even my phone has 13107 times more storage capacity in a tiny little semiconductor, plus the I/O is much faster. An ordinary laptop has 840 million times more computing power while it is 15000 times smaller in size compared to the room sized IBM Univac mainframe. Scaling will be much faster from now on because AI itself will help develop new hardware and software to scale. In the future, AI models which currently require massive data centers and gigawatts of energy will shrink to a size we can host at home. We can not get to today's laptop without building the Univac mainframe. Poeple should understand this fact.
Remember the late 90's. The internet revolution was on it's way and just like today, investors were putting their money on this new and promising disruptive innovation. Then shortsighted people who had no idea started saying that it's a bubble, this turned into a hype, then it turned into panic and the market crashed. Only a few years later, today's most valuable companies emerged as dot com companies. You're using one of them now to make money. Was it really a bubble? No it was not, just like AI is not a bubble right now. These are investments which you can't expect quick revenues. You simply invest into the future. When the time comes and they start generating revenue, you realize it was worth waiting.
Incredible that people say AI gives them no real-life advantage. My life has been completely transformed by AI. Instead of a 9-to-5 job, I’m now developing software for the very industry in which I used to earn hardly anything. Because I have both experience in my specific industry and in software development, I’m now building software for that industry. Yes, I could have done this before, but with AI, projects become possible that simply wouldn’t have been economically viable in the past. Coding is much faster. Bugs are found much more quickly. Through AI, I’ve discovered extremely clever trading strategies, and for the first time my trading is actually profitable.
I’ve also gained an enormous amount of general knowledge through AI—for example, that time passes more slowly on the ground than in the air, or that the distance between point A and B becomes shorter from the traveler’s perspective the faster they travel. These are things I never really understood before, because I didn’t have anyone who could explain them simply enough.
On top of that, I’ve automated almost everything in my work with AI. Yes, I can honestly say that no invention developed during my 43 years of life has changed my life as dramatically as AI—not even the internet.
If openai raises prices At All, im cancelling my subscription.
I'd rather go to the library
They are gathering DATA. Which is one of the most valuable commodities you can have nowadays as a business. Plenty of tech companies have shown us as much in the last decade.
I'm not saying there isn't a bubble necessarily. I'm saying that they will eventually capitalize this data.
They’re building data centers and spending billions without having real solid use cases yet. Not to mention the physical hardware is obsolete every few years. Revenue does not even come close to covering their operating costs, let alone projected costs of spending 1.4 TRILLION. Somethings gotta give eventually
How is it possibly a commodity when you have to spend billions to get the necessary server capacity and chips to be competitive. It’s basically the opposite of a commodity, huge barriers to entry to the winner because infrastructure spend is impossible for anyone to catch up if scale is the driving factor for model intelligence. A commodity is something anyone can do, this is not, at least on the frontier level.
So my retirement fund is dependent on this gamble not imploding.
It's not that simple. You could have said the same about AAPL, MSFT, GOOG, NFLX, AMZN, META etc. They were losing money too at first, and were priced for growth That's how young companies work.
Yeah China can provide the services cheaper so once ChatGPT becomes expensive, people will just use Chinese AI services. We're fucked.
AI is just an automation tool
But in the end we need a tool operation.
Instead of 10 tool operators we can make do with just one or two.
Think a world without internet
And now without CHATGPT
Always the same noise from sideline specialists.
As an example see Netflix. Also an airline ? Up +100.000% since the IPO.
A new world with space for more companies.
Just as Netflix: now HBO, PRIME, DISNEY ETC. There is enough room for more companies.
It is called investing !!!!
So BS sire
People can’t afford to buy decent food. Forget about paying for monthly AI subscription fees.
Just think about how enjoyable it is to use chat bots and get what you’re after. They’re trying to turn the world into a giant chatbot machine. The thing is these models all use the same chips. If somebody builds up a somewhat competent AI system, another company could come along and make a data centre with the next generation of chips, and use the competition AI to train their own AI to get the same results and then improve from there. The whole essence of business is having something unique. This is just garbage cloned from garbage.
We would be living in Stone Age if you think like this guy.
Yeah they will jack up the price for you using A.I. and then people won't use it
Im sorry but in my field i have not seen much intelligence from AI answers. But on the other side I hope that AI can make writing sotware better and cheaper.
If you’re amused by ChatGPT then you probably voted for Biden.
What beautiful, wise explanation of similarity with airline ,you are 110% on the mark.
This country is about to experience a lot of financial pain. Decades of fiscal overspending by politicians bought and paid for by lobbyists has driven the debt so high that it likely cannot be paid off. The guardrails for the market have been completely hollowed out by a Trump admin that is actively participating in market manipulation and insider trading. Now the corporations have followed suit, circular trading themselves after realizing that the projects they've been shoveling money into aren't going to pay off anytime soon.
We're in America's death spiral. Competence and merit are dead.
Government shutdown is impacting Social Security
Baised comment. Still very early days of AI. Kind of dismissing toddlers saying that they cannot do anything of their own.
လူငယ်တွေအချင်းချင်း👌🏿👌🏿🙈
Sam trying to get his competition to quit because gpt5 was a flop
Definitely not going to happen. ChatGPT is cool and all to use as a web scraper… and worth it at 20 bucks a month… but imagine 100-200 or more… it becomes nonsensical to justify. It’s not going to increase your salary / wages to justify the every day person buying into it.
People said the same things about amazon
America itself is sitting on Debt bubble
airlines?
No.
These models are all strangely useless. I expected a lot more, but I feel like I burn more time trying to get them to give me something useful than I gain. I don't think we're going to see any kind of revolution unless we see a new paradigm emerge.
To this moment, I haven't found a single practical use for AI in my day to day life.
Nothing it does is something I couldn't already do and nothing it does, saves me a lot of work or time….
A bit of a gimmick
Open AI doing $12 billion in rev with 3500 employees, $3.5M in revenue per employee, nearly double Apple, Meta, Google and Microsoft, plus decent gross margins around 50%, and growing 4X YoY. Airlines do $500k revenue per employee at 25% gross profit margins. This is not a comparable business to airlines
