  1. Humphrey my account has grown with majority of stocks, and I was wondering if it’s best to turn those all into ETFs or at least the ones that you mentioned now that I’m in my 60s

  2. Note to Humphrey.

Own FSKAX for total stock mark coverage. Better than VTSAX. Why? FSKAX 3757 component stocks versus VTSAX 3515, ie, less basis risk. FSKAX one basis point expense ratio versus VTSAX four bps.

FSKAX also better than VOO. Why? FSKAX 3757 stocks versus VOO 500, ie, again less basis risk. FSKAX not subject to quarterly stock/sector rotation like VOO. FSKAX one bp expense ratio VOO versus 3 bps.

No need to buy an international stock index. Why? Approximately 40 percent of the S&P 500 revenues are derived from international exposure. That’s covered in FSKAX. Also, international funds are relatively more expensive. FSKAX one bp versus VXUS five bps.

VGT superior to QQQ. VGT pure tech versus QQQ, which has crap like Amazon, Costco, Walmart, Netflix, Starbucks, and the like included. Those later stocks use tech, but they are not pure tech. VGT is broader and contains 319 stocks versus QQQ only 100 companies, ie less basis risk. Lastly, VGT has an expense ratio of 9 bps versus QQQ 18 bps.

No need to have specialty funds like SCHD, Schwab’s high dividend stock index. Why? Those stocks are included in FSKAX. SCHD also more expensive, 6 bps versus one bp for FSKAX.

Wrt bond index funds, no need if you have substantial monthly pension and SS income that covers your monthly expenses. This allows you to absorb more market risk and be ‘all in’ on FSKAX and VGT.

FSKAX and VGT should be your core equity holdings. Period.

Humphrey, do your homework. Stop spreading disinformation.

    You’re welcome.

  3. I'm still a newer investor, but I disagree with this strategy. Please correct me where I'm wrong, but VTI, VOO, and QQQ all seem hugely redundant to each other and I think most investors should probably skip VOO and QQQ and just hold VTI.

VTI and VOO perform similarly and have similar holdings, but VTI offers more diversity, making it a better core. Also, my research indicates that investing in a well-structured small cap growth fund like like AVUV is a much better growth tilt than a tech-focused fund like QQQ. VTI and VOO already have huge tech holdings already, so it seems to me that investing in QQQ just increases volitility and hurts diversity by concentrating your portfolio on one sector.

I just have a VTI core paired with tilts in VXUS for international exposure and AVUV for well structured small cap growth.

I do reserve about 5-6% of my portfolio to have a little speculative fun with things like crypto, high-volatility specialized funds, etc. Aside from that, my portfolio is just VTI, VXUS, and AVUV.

Based on my research, this seems like a solid strategy, but again, I'm a newer investor trying to learn, so please correct me wherever I may be going wrong here. I appreciate the feedback. I'm
