President Donald Trump is floating a new tax idea that could fundamentally change how much it costs you to own a home. During a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21, 2026, the president suggested that regular homeowners should be allowed to claim a tax deduction that has long been reserved for businesses and real estate investors: depreciation.
